# Work continuity

> Cover someone on holiday, hand a single request to a colleague, or transfer everything when a person leaves

Work shouldn't stall because the person holding it is away. Seloria offers three mechanisms, and the right one depends on whether the absence is **temporary** and whether you're moving **one item** or **everything**.

| Situation | Use | Does the owner change? |
| ----------------------------------------- | --------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Holiday, sick leave, a trip | **Work delegation** | No — it expires on its own |
| This one request should be someone else's | **Reassign** | Yes, permanently |
| Someone is leaving the company | **Transfer all work** | Yes, for everything open |

## Work delegation — temporary cover

In **Settings → Approvals → Delegation** you set a window with a start and an end date, and choose what it covers:

* **Approvals** — only approval steps. This is the authority delegation described in [Approvals](/purchase-orders/approvals).
* **Work** — the delegate sees and works the requests **assigned to you**, and receives your notices.
* **Both**.

The key property: **you keep ownership**. The requests stay assigned to you, the delegate is granted access for the window, and when the end date passes the cover switches off by itself. Nobody has to remember to undo it.

Work delegation matters for **buyers**, whose access depends on what is assigned to them. Other roles don't work from an assignment list, so it changes nothing for them.

## Reassign — hand over one item

On an intake or an RFI/RFP/RFQ, **Reassign** moves the responsibility to another person for good.

* Reassigning an **intake** is done by a PM or Admin.
* Reassigning an **RFI, RFP or RFQ** can also be done by a buyer.

The change is recorded in the audit history as a `reassigned` event showing who it went from and to, and the new owner is notified.

## Transfer all work — someone leaves

When a person resigns, **Settings → Users** offers **Transfer work** on their record. Pick who receives it and Seloria moves, in one action:

* Every **intake assigned to them that is still open** — assigned, in progress, on hold, or awaiting technical review.
* Every **RFI, RFP and RFQ they own that isn't closed**.

This is available to PMs and Admins, and works even when the person has already been **deactivated** — which is the normal case, since you usually revoke access before tidying up their workload.

Each moved record gets its own `reassigned` event so the trail stays per-item, plus one summary event on the transfer itself. The person receiving the work gets a **single notification with the totals**, not one message per record.

<Note>
  Transfer moves open work only. Closed records keep their original owner, which is what you want: history should show who actually ran that purchase.
</Note>

## Seeing the workload

**Reports → Buyers** shows what each person is carrying, which is how you decide who should receive a transfer — and how you spot that somebody is quietly overloaded.
